I have always enjoyed making mugs at the studio. So, it was a no-brainer that would be the first product on the website. There was one other important reason to launch the website with this collection of coffee mugs- my husband A, a coffee connoisseur and my best friend. This is for him.
I've known my husband for close to 10 years now. I still do not understand how one can obsess over a cup of coffee as much as he does- it's not hot enough, the milk is too thick, or this is too much coffee. So, there are too many variables, and it takes a lot for them to align for that one perfect cup of coffee.
The first mug I ever made was a coffee shot mug for A. He's one of those who enjoys small quantities of coffee several times a day. Then came the Everyday Mug and the Grande for cousins, friends and extended family who consume varying amounts of this much-loved beverage.
About the name Mix- Less- Plus- in our quest for that perfect cuppa, we frequent the well-known cafes, darshinis (chain of eateries in Bangalore that typically serve the best south-Indian food), midnight hawkers after a late-night movie. We have a different spiel for how we'd like our coffee in each of these places. Mix-Less-plus is an interesting phrase we picked up while ordering at the darshinis. It says a lot about how Bangaloreans like their coffee and the effort it takes for the restaurants to get it right. Typically, the preparation of coffee involves large quantities of boiling milk - one with sugar and another without sugar. Less refers to the sugar-less coffee, and Mix is the perfect, well-balanced addition of milk with and without sugar to the decoction, so it has a hint of sugar to offset the (bitter) strong decoction. Plus- it is for those with a sweet tooth and like their coffee with the sweetened milk alone. There you are, the perfect name for a collection of coffee mugs- for my best friend and a tribute to the city that brought us together and a place we call home.
